Elder Amos M. Smith passed peacefully on Sunday, October 29th at Colonial Park Nursing Home in his 86th year. Elder Smith was born to the late Cicero Smith and Cornelia Shoftner Smith. He received his education in Liberty, North Carolina and was one of 13 siblings; all predeceased him except, Lola Smith Moore of Greensboro, North Carolina, his daughter, Carol Ann Smith Payne had also predeceased him.
Amos retired from Bethlehem Steel and was a Veteran of the US Army, serving in WW II as a Private 1st Class and received the Victory Medal. Elder Smith enjoyed arts and crafts, painting and especially baking. He was a faithful member of The United House of Pray For All People, he served as a Deacon, Treasurer, Sunday School Superintendent and Minister.
In addition to his sister Lola, Elder Smith leaves 7 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. A celebration of his life and legacy will be held at his church on Monday, November 6th at 11:00 a.m. with 10:00 viewing, interment at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
