Truly great friends are hard to find, difficult to leave and impossible to forget
Alvertis "Ace" Harris 81, of Kelker Street passed peacefully on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at Holy Spirit Hospital. He was born in Charlotte North Carolina on November 17, 1928 to the late Julius Harris and Evelyn (Ervin) Harris, he was a member of Bethel Village A.M. E. and a 1948 graduate of William Penn High School, a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked at the former New Cumberland Army Depot as the Chief of the Aircraft Rotor Blade Division, retired in 1984 with over 34 years of service and received numerous awards and citations for outstanding performance. Ace was a member of the American Legion Post 733. In his leisure he enjoyed Track and Field, High School Football, Basketball and meeting his buddies after the games. He was also an avid Race Track fan. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Patrick Taylor, 4 aunts and 2 uncles. He leaves to celebrate and cherish his life 3 Aunts, Calethia Powell, Julia Ervin of Harrisburg and Otelia Ervin of Charlotte North Carolina, 2 uncles, John Ervin and Leonard Powell of Harrisburg and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces and great nieces and nephews.
His service will be cared for by the Hooper Memorial Home Inc. at 11AM on Saturday October 2, 2010 in the sanctuary of Bethel Village A.M.E. Church, 1721 North 5th Street with a viewing at 10:00 AM. His final resting place will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery on Monday October 4th, 2010.
