Albert J. Roberts Jr., affectionately known as "Brother" and by many in the community as "Al Roberts" passed peacefully at home on Saturday, January 27, 2007. Albert, an Army Veteran, was employed at Olmstead Air Force Base and retired after 21 years, from New Cumberland Army Depot as Equal Employment Opportunity Counselor, Spanish Speaking Coordinator/Hispanic Employment Program Coordinator. He was a Member and Chairperson of the Spanish Speaking Center Advisory Committee, The Spanish Center's Boy Scout Troop, a former Board of Director of Gaudenzia, former Member of Schrinerstown Civic Association and he received numerous accommodations and letters of appreciation while employed. A graduate from Swatara Township High School and HACC, he also attended the University Center and Berlitz Language School in Philadelphia. He had strong affiliations with Affirmative Action and Equal Employment Opportunity in the Mid-State area. He was a member of The Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church, a former member of Harris A.M.E. Zion Church where he served as President of the Gospel Choir, a former member of St. Francis of Assisi Church of Harrisburg and St. Paul A.M.E. Church of Oberlin. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Martha Johnson Roberts and two daughters, Yaivette M. Roberts, Yonise Roberts Paige, son-in-law Erick Paige, all of Harrisburg, two children that where raised and nurtured, Linda Burns Cortez of Shamokin and Michael Louis Whittaker of Harrisburg, a sister, Anna Romaine Prather of Oberlin, a sister-in-law, Anna Kathryn DeCarlo and husband Joseph DeCarlo of New York, an Aunt, Marzetta Roberts of Oberlin, several nieces and nephews, a host of god-children, family and friends. Mr. Robert's was predeceased by his parents, Albert J. Roberts Sr. and Roshae Jackson Roberts, sister, Doris Roberts Ellis, son Sean J. Roberts, father-in law Lawrence Johnson and mother-in-law Martha Johnson. Services will be held at The Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 212 N. Progress Avenue, Harrisburg on Friday, February 2nd at 12:00 Noon, viewing at 10:00 until time of service. The Robert's Family is appreciative of all the love and support shown to them during their time of bereavement. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Bethesda Mission, (Men's or Women's/Children's Center) P.O. Box 3041, Harrisburg, PA 17105, Hooper Memorial Home, Inc. is caring for Mr. Robert's arrangements.
